His research has been funded by several food commodity boards, the United States Department of Agriculture, the American Heart Association and other funding agencies and commonly addresses the impacts of numerous functional foods such as fruits, nuts and minimally refined sweeteners on cardiometabolic disease risk factors, appetite and obesity, bone health, exercise metabolism and sport performance. |

On January 9th, 1915, the world's fastest race-car drivers vied to complete 305 miles on a six-mile elliptical circuit of dirt roads around Point Loma for a winning purse of $5,000.An estimated 50,000 people watched the race to promote the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park. This January 11, 2026 the Horseless Carriage Society will celebrate this historic race with 100 vintage cars. Come hear about the history and the celebration and tour two historic vehicles! |
